About us

Millinder House Farm Cottages have been converted from stone buildings around the courtyard of Millinder House. The farm itself has been here for at least two hundred years, possibly as long as seven hundred. Originally there was a Mill at the bottom of the land, and Millinder House was called the "Miller's House".

Two hundred years ago Millinder House was a farm with over one hundred acres. Now we have only twenty acres which are used for rearing sheep.

Millinder House is now our family home for Simon and Jo and three children. The outbuildings are used for holiday cottages and our own company offices, where we design and manage motorway communications projects.

How to find us

Take the Castleton/Hutton le Hole turning off the A171 Guisborough to Whitby road. Turn right at the T-junction in Castleton and head through the village towards Hutton le Hole. After leaving the village take the second turning (ie the last turning) on your right to Westerdale (gated road) and a car park.

Proceed over the brow of a hill until you reach a post box at a fork in the road. Take the left hand fork signposted Westerdaleside. Millinder House is the fourth house along on the right. There is a large stone at the top of its track marked "Millinder House".

More than half our visitors get lost!

Our address is very misleading - we are not in Westerdale, and nowhere near Whitby-our address should be Westerdaleside, Castleton. You can find us here on Streetmap.co.uk (you can zoom in on Millinder House), but if you still manage to lose us call us from your mobile or the telephone box in Castleton. Mobile phones stop working at the top of our road, so Castleton centre is the best place to call from.
